The University of Salford last week launched its yearly exhibition showcasing the very best work by graduating art and design students.

The event was incredibly well attended with representatives from a wide range of top companies including Waterstones, McCann, the BBC, JD Sports, Kitbag, Age Concern and Salford Council.

To date we’ve undertaken numerous collaborative projects with Salford students but it was clear from the illustrious list of companies above that we are not alone in supporting the up-and-coming talent with ‘live’ briefs and creative projects – or hoping one day the best will come and work for us!

“The University of Salford undoubtedly has the knack of producing students who are not only talented in the various creative fields, but also in the strategic thought processes that lead to effective ideas.” says Photolink group creative director John Whalley who was at the event in Salford’s MediaCity, “It is largely because of this ‘added extra’ that we have a number of their former students within our strategic, design and digital teams.”

Amongst an array of remarkable work was ‘Crop’, a final year group project from graduating students on the Design Futures course. Celebrating Salford and its identity as a creative city aiming to engage the local creative industry, this was certainly a standout project, with both impeccable aesthetics and a great concept.

All in all the event went a long way to dispel some of the negativity around the creative industry about how Universities are falling behind the times and becoming increasingly disconnected from industry.

From where we were standing, these students certainly look like the brave new future of the creative industry. You can read a full rundown of the event by Rebecca Rae our head of social in The Drum
