85% of purchases are still made in-store
£52.25 billion is the figure UK online sales are expected to reach by the end of this year: a 16.2% increase on 2014. Despite this growth, 85% of purchases are still made in-store.
Statistics from RetailMeNot and the Centre for Retail Research found that the UK are the most frequent online shoppers in Europe, with each shopper spending an average of £1,174 over the year. In second place is Germany, spending approximately £1,023 per person. To compare, the average European will spend £820.
As online sales continue to increase, brands spend more revenue increasing their digital presence. Whilst this is very important; investment in in-store experience shouldn’t be neglected, when the majority of purchases are made there.
